Is the short hairstyle for men limited to what hair product you use and not the cut?

Everytime i tell my hairdresser the type of hairstyle i want, he tells me that its more on i how i use my hairgel/wax/etc than the cut. Is this true?

Its annoying cause i dont have naturally good hair that just get out of the shower or bed with. Typical chinese hair where it sticks out like pins. I dont like looking like those typical chinese pop metrosexual bands.

I prefer short, messed up hairdos. Is it impossible for me?Is the short hairstyle for men limited to what hair product you use and not the cut?
Its true that you have to train your hair to some styles but it really does begin with the right cut.

quite alot of the salons are into promoting their brand of hair care products.so what id do is start asking people about their hair.';where do you get your hair cut? who cut your hair?then go there ,invest in a good cut, then buy yourself some inexpensive hair mousse/gell whatever and experiment till you got what you want.

once you find your style and the salon that gives you the best cut stick with it.

I think that using a good products does make a difference.

My brother in law always has a good hairstyle and he uses a lot of hair products. He's got the same type of hair as my other half - very thick and wiry and with a double crown so it doesn't lay flat but using lots of products seems to work for him.
Cut it short and use a gel, but don't get it from the hairdresser. they are expensive. then just put on your palm, and rub though your hair and it will stand up. You can experiment.
