Is it possible to chemically straighten your hair at home, or do you have to get a hair dresser to do it?

And if so what chemicals do you have to use, and what's the method? I wouls also like to know ho much hair dresses charge (i live in aus)Is it possible to chemically straighten your hair at home, or do you have to get a hair dresser to do it?
Check out this site!

It sells all kinds of stuff for a low price!

www.onlinegreatbuys.orgIs it possible to chemically straighten your hair at home, or do you have to get a hair dresser to do it?
i think itd be smartest to go to a hair dresser. i dont know how much they cost there lol. but if u screw up at home...u might not be able to fix it. at least at a salon, they wont screw up.
Yes you can straighten your hair at home. You would have to use a ';relaxer';. You want to start at the crown of your hair or the most curliest part of you hair. Make sure not to wash your hair the day of the treatment or to scratch your head. Please follow the manufactures guides and if it's burning rinse, rinse rinse!!! You may feel a tingling sensation but, that is okay. Also make sure to moisturize your hair really good after wards.
You can do this your self ofcourse but im a hair dresser and doing any chemically straightening can be dangerset if you have never done this before...I say have this done at a salon trust me you dont wanna get burned its not a nice thing and ive seen many burns caused from chemicals this can costed so much more in medical bills
last time i did purchase a set of straighten hair system with www.kcareshop.com, just took few days i was get it and the web would let u know how to do it...or u can mailing or calling the e-consultant for further consultation, very helpful side, please check! hope this helpful for u also....
you can do at home if you know how to do it
you can buy that stuff at walmart now but i think i would have it done by a pro
If u would like to have hair, go to a hairdresser; leave it up to the pros when dealing with caustic chemical because the chances of damaging your scalp or loosing hair is very high.

How much should you tip a hair dresser? Is there a percentage you go by?

my hair dresser does a WONDERFUL job making sure i get exactly what i want. i usually give her a $10 tip, which is probably considered generous when the cut is only $20. but my reasoning is i get the same or better cut going to her than some fancy salon, and at a salon i'd be paying at least $30. i just try to pay her what she's worth. How much should you tip a hair dresser? Is there a percentage you go by?
Generally speaking, ten percent. There are things to consider such as time spent on your hair, what he or she had to do etc. the more involved the procedure and the better they did the more you should tip. Of course if you leave with a mess of hair or something that was not what was discussed in the first place (i.e I want a cut a color how much will it be- and they say 80 dollars then charge you 110$) you don't need to tip anything unless you feel absurdly generous. How much should you tip a hair dresser? Is there a percentage you go by?
I normally tip 2 dollars, if the price is $12 or under
I dont tip by the percentage I tip by the quality of their work and if they were friendly...the other day I got a cut, shampoo, and straighten.I also bought some products so I tipped my dresser $7
15 % of the cost of service. Don't forget the hair shampooer $2 to $5 dollars.
for a 25 dollar haircut, i tip 5 dollars or maybe less.
I don't know about %, but I usually tip between $5-$10
$10 is a fair amount. If it is a discount place, you can get away with $5. If you are a kid, $5 is reasonable either way. If it is a very posh place, do not go under $10.

What is the path to be an Hair-dresser/Hairstylist?

I stay in Singapore and has an interest and dream to be a hairstylist. What is the path to be an Hair-dresser/Hairstylist?
You have to attend a beauty school then the will guide you along to better acquire skills that you will need to function as a professional hairdresser or hairstylist so seek out an school licensed to tutor students in this capacity maybe as well near you and where you probably get financial Aid support if qualified so go pursue your dreams make it happen.

What is the appropriate amount to tip a hair dresser?

Thanks:-)What is the appropriate amount to tip a hair dresser?
I'd say that the standard 15% you tip in a restaurant is good. What is the appropriate amount to tip a hair dresser?
20% if you like the outcome, nothing if they totally messed it up. However, you should always tip the shampoo girl if that is a different person between 2 and 5 dollars depending on the salon and what you had done.
My hair is a little past my shoulders...It costs about $200.00 for the services. I personally tip $50. Due to the fact that Ive been with her for a number of years and it is an upscale salon. 20% is usually ok though.
it all depends on what you are having done. something simple like a blow dry %26amp; curl $5- $7, weaves 10 and up. but really we are happy to receive anything a client gives us
i always do my own hair, but i usually tip my nail guy $5, and my tattoo lady $10

whatever seems fair for the service, i guess? it's generally acceptable to tip 16% in a restaurant
15% in a normal salon, 20% in an upscale salon, 25% if she ';accidentally'; rubs her boobs on you a lot.
It depends on what you got done to it. and how much it cost. If it was something simple and cheap then like 5-10 bucks. the more you do to it the more you shoould tip
normally it should not be below 10% of the rate, me i give 15 % of their charges...
what up how are you doing what is your real name?

if you tell you i well tell you mine ok
about $5.00 and then go get something to eat ! ok

emily
It honestly depends on the service given..usually 15% is good but you must remember this is how they make a living and they appreciate what is given but usually if it jingles keep it in ';your'; pocket..

What is the best way to tell your hair dresser that you want a long side bang?

I don't want short blunt bangs and I don't know how to tell herWhat is the best way to tell your hair dresser that you want a long side bang?
Tell the hairdresser EXACTLY what you want. Bring a few pictures so they get the right idea. What is the best way to tell your hair dresser that you want a long side bang?
Hairstyles With Bangs/fringe

http://geebal.blogspot.com/2007/11/hair-鈥?/a>
just tell her that you want long bangs....

take a picture or something
you just decribed it to us.

say the same thing to her.

or use ';sideswept';
find a pic of how you want it, bring it in, say,';i want my bangs like this, now chop chop!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!鈥?^_^ yup!!!!!!

^_^
find a picture in a magazine or online and bring it with you. Sometimes that is easier than trying to explain what you want
print a picture out and show it to her and just say what you just said hereeee =)
mention 'long side bangs would be nice, would they look good on me'?
The best way would probably be printing out a picture and show it to your hair dresser.
Ask her politely or show her with a picture.
Just tell her, If you can find a picture of another person with this type of cut. show her. They are smart enough to understand. You will be joyfully susprised
tell them in a sweet voice exactly what u want. if u dont they are bound 2 do something wrong.

hope that helps : )

  • At what age do you have to be to start beauty school if you want to be a hair dresser?

I was just curious! At what age do you have to be to start beauty school if you want to be a hair dresser?
i believe the youngest is 16. im 16 and im currently attending school for cosmetology. it may depend on the school. look up local beauty schools and call them and ask.

How much are you supposed to tip your hair dresser? I spent $80 today and gave my stylist a $10 tip.?

Is that too much? Too little? What's the rule? Usually at a restaurant, I give double the tax. Is it supposed to be about 15% at the hair salon? Same for getting nails done?

I work in a service job as well, so I understand the whole tip thing when you work with people.. However, I am a doctor and my profession (along with lawyers) has been labelled as the 'worst tippers'. I dopn't know why.How much are you supposed to tip your hair dresser? I spent $80 today and gave my stylist a $10 tip.?
truth is, the salon owner overcharges you and the poor stylist is probably depending on the tip. they all have wrist pain and carpel tunnel syndrome, not to mention varicose veins from standing all day, so go ahead and give'em the 15%.How much are you supposed to tip your hair dresser? I spent $80 today and gave my stylist a $10 tip.?
you are the worst tippers because people think that you are rich and you should give people that service you more than you do. Because they think that your rich. Like you dont have bills to pay yourself. 10 dollars was enough for her other people dont tip so its plenty. And she charged you 70 dollars in the first place. Thats too high in the first place. go to a salon of color and you will pay 30 for a wash and set. 60 for a perm if you use their product. 50 if you bring your own.
    $80.00 haircut = $16.00 tip :)
first time ever i heared about someone tipping a hair dresser.

    And i ain't no doctor.
    That's 12.5% . Sounds fair to me.
that's what tipped my hair dresser when i had my hair done. so i think that's about right
Although the salon may be overcharging you, usually the person doing your hair gets a (low) hourly rate. So tip the stylist 10-20 percent, depending on how hard they worked and how much you can afford. Same goes for nails.

As for doctors- I could see how people expect them to give big tips- just because they are doctors. Most of them work really hard and it's not fair to assume that they should pay more than anyone else.
I figure as much as they charge, that is their tip. What I'd like to know is why everyone these days expect a tip. It's gotten way out of control if you ask me.
I usually go by the waitress rule (I was one and probably overtip) but I have never left less than 5 and usually 20 percent of the tab. For my stylist, I do the same thing!

(My hair is great. They love me!)
That's About Right, I Think It's Supposed To be About 15%.
If she/he is the owner then tipping is not needed however, tipping the shampoo washer is good. And if the hairdresser is not the owner then you should tip according to how well you like the style or with myself how long i know my hairdresser.
You spent 80 bucks? No wonder my health care is so high.
20 % for hair dressers ,, and yes the richer the client the worse the tip . They actually think we earn enough and get paid . they figure we don't get tipped why should you . My best tippers are waitresses .. and i tip the waitresses what i think proper , if she is really pleasant , say my meal was $40.00 i would tip her a $20.00 if she performed poorly ,$8.00 Tip what you can most hairdressers are just happy to have you come back in their chair again , and if they know you are strapped for cash ,,, they would understand .
my best friend is a hair stylist and a $10 tip would be considered an insult. you should be tipping $20 probably - especially if you like it. its hard to get a good hair style or color.

my friend is a good stylist and a lot of her clients will tip what they paid for a haircut - i personally think that is insane. i say a $20 tip is best.
    five
i think 10-15 % if you find their services satisfied
    $2
its completely up to you but remember hairdressers wages are not that good so they appreciate any thing you give them unless you take the piss and give them a penny or cent
15%??? maybe in the 80's, nowadays we go 25% wherever me and the misses go... dinner, haircut anything that requires tipping....25%
15% if u r having dinner this is too much
    I don't tip my hairdresser so I wouldn't know...
    dont tip noone does
i say give them a 5 dollar tip i mean damn u already spent 80 bucks and 4 me... they have 2 do a really good job 2 get 10 bucks
im not even going to touch the tipping doctors thing...

But i think 80 bucks for your hair is reasonable IF you like the outcome. I pay between 80-235 for my hair and i dont complain cuz i can go somewhere cheaper but i dont get the same result. as for the tip i always tip and well, if you appreciate the job he did TIP if not dont
Well, my mother is a stylist and I can tell you for sure that a 10 dollar tip on an 80 dollar service is just ';ok';. It means that the service was fine, but not fabulous. 20% tip is for a stylist whom you enjoy, frequent regularly and trust their work. Are you a dedicated person to them? If so, think about a better tip and also holiday gifts. Depending on who they are, during the christmas holidays, a bottle of wine, etc is always a nice thing. During the holidays, my mother comes home with many gifts that her clients give her (if not gift, then a monetary gift, such as a much higher tip)...she is always so appreciative. Hope this helps... there are not many people left in this world who are dedicated to customer service like the hairstylist. Goodluck!
I'd say it would depend on how good the haircut turned out....make the tip for what it's worth to you....
0 dollars for a bad job,10% for an okay job,20% if the person is a freind or did a great job or a large amount of effort
it depends on the service we had

Hair dresser was suppose to be here for 1pm and her phones switched off physics is this female a Hoax?

You do know that when you are in hospital phones are supposed to be switched off, so maybe she was still there... She has more important thing to worry about like her son.

Just find another hairdresser and stop putting more pressure onto her...Hair dresser was suppose to be here for 1pm and her phones switched off physics is this female a Hoax?

Do you use some kind of acetone on hair?and is it a differ ant type in hardware store.if so i need to find the name and where i can purchase some?Is there a hair dresser out there that can help?
Typically, people only use acetone in their hair if they're trying to get a previous hair dye color out. If that's what you're trying to do then go for it, but i wouldn't just put it in for the hell of it.

Acetone is not exactly the best thing for your hair.Is there a hair dresser out there that can help?
its different than what you get at a supply house. why would you want to put it in your hair?

  • What are the benefits of becoming a hair dresser?

im thinking about going to cosmetology school and want to know the benefits behind it! im still young and have not yet decided what i want to do with my life and thought maybe doing something fun like hair and make-up wouldnt be so bad! i really dont want to be in shool for a long period of time becasue im really not a school person and i have already checked out the paul mitchell school and seems like alot of fun! What are the benefits of becoming a hair dresser?
Becoming a Cosmetologist can be one of the most rewarding careers in this world especially if you like working closely with people. 1. You help people to look their best! So you help people feel good at some of the darkest moments in their lives.

    2. When you are well trained you can help a person to tranform to look like they had never dreamed and this can be very rewarding to you as well as them.

    3. School does not take long usually one year and a few more months if you wish to become an instructor. School is lots and lots of fun.

4.You will have a little more command of your time and finances.

    5. If you love your clients, they will love and reward you!

Good Luck!!What are the benefits of becoming a hair dresser?
I think a major benefit is that you will have learned a 'trade'...so you will have a skill that you can take anywhere with you....although you said you wouldn't mind doing something 'fun' like hair....im sure it can be, but if you talk to working stylists they will probably tell you it's also very hard, tiring work...I think you should talk to actual people working in the industry so they can give you honest opinions of the pro's and con's and you will have a much better idea when you decide if you want to pursue this career, good luck :)
there are alot of benefits.especially if you are good at it.and if you find a good place to open your stand.like a good salon to have a station in.i have a sister in law who works as a cosmetologist and she makes bank for sure.it all depends on how good you are and if you have good social skills.but it is good money.
Hairdressers tend to develop bonds with their regular clients because they break through the 'personal bubble'. People often tell their hairdressers about their personal life or stories about them.

It is also fun styling hair. The customer's satisfaction will also make you very happy.
benefits can include meeting new and exciting people. you can start to build your clientele and learn a new exiciting career.

What is a typical hair dresser's schedule?

I am really considering going to cosmetology school. I am a mom, and I want to know the pro's and the con's of the schedule! What is a typical hair dresser's schedule?
with this profession you pretty much decide your schedule, your clients will have to work around your schedule that's whats so nice about being a hair dresser (you definitely need to open on sat. for the party's)What is a typical hair dresser's schedule?
my hairstylist works out of her garage,,,,,how easy is that? If your good enough,,,people will go out of their way to find YOU! GOOD LUCK sweetie!
the schedule is busy busy busy busy busy... First off... unless you are a manager/owner of a salon.. there are no vacation days.. (unless you get a very prestigious salon with lots of money) anyway... For hairdressers, there is no set time on when to come in and leave.. well for me... I come in the morning and leave when the last client leaves.. that could be 6pm, 7pm, 11:30 pm... its random... no two days are alike and there is always something new to learn in hairdressing... usually salons are open tuesday through sunday but that depends on the salon..... Some days the salon will be super busy and others it will be completely dead.. so dead you wont even hear the buzz of crickets and grasshoppers.... (lol) anyway; I love the salon business its wonderful even if it is a pain sometimes... but i have such a passion for it that i dont care i stick with it... GOOD LUCK ON YOUR DECISION
hi well I have been a hairdresser for over 15 years and now own my own salon, it can be very hard demanding work for not a lot of wages, expect to be on your feet all day, some night school as well, keeping up with different techniques and styles and cutting, expect clients who show you a style of a celebrity and don't have the hair to do it with, apart from that I love it, you could also do cruise liners etc when qualified the world is your pair of scissors depending on how creative you are, do some work part time helping in salon to get the taste of it first
    monday- off

    tuesday-7:00am -6:00pm

    wednesday-7:00am-4:00pm

    thursday-7:00am-7:00pm

    friday-7:00am-3:00pm

    saturday-off

    sunday-off

so you wont get tired of cutting hair you could like switch out cutting hair and doing nails or even makeup and this schedule is also goodbecause u have kids
Most hair cutting places don't work mondays to my knowledge
I, too am a mom and have recently graduated from cosemtology school and at present I am now working in a salon...I am full time and I work Tuesday thru Saturday...our salon is open 7 days a week..I love what I do but starting off there are definitely alot of SSSSSSSSSSLLLLLLLLLOOOOOOOOWWWWWWWW days where you may not have one client in a 8 hours time slot but then ther a re days when you are hopping from client to client and you cant even run to the ladies room..but it is alot of funa nd you never stop learning and remember family members are always models :-)
Most salons nowadays are open 7 days a week. I started off sometimes working shifts that were 10 days, 14 days and even 16 days straight. That was the busy times and when I was new. Sundays sucked to work, but I did them for two years and now I don't anymore. I didn't have 2 days of in a row either. This is making it seem bad, but really its probably the first year that is, but after you get some clientelle and a bit of seniority, it gets better. When you start it truthfully is LONGGGGGGG 8 hour shifts of maybe one or two clients and LOTS of cleaning. All I can say is try to start at a place with lots of walk ins so you can build your business. They will refer their friends and family to you and it grows. After that initial year, you are busier, usually get a decent shift, and some flexibility in your schedule to take some time off. Now I work Tuesday to Saturday 9to6, and one late night till 8pm.It actually isn't that bad. The one thing I would consider is that with your kids, the evening and saturday work might be a problem with their after school activities and such. I am not a mom myself, but i know lots of the moms at work have missed lots of soccer, hockey games, dance recititals and such. It wouldn't be a huge problem if you state before you even start your job that you would like flexibility with this sort of stuff, but in your cese, it is a personal decision. I know that when i have kids that i will be cutting my hours to see this type of stuff. It does get better as time goes on. Once you have an established business, you can chair rent where you pay for your own product and everything (you would be self-employed), but with this you pay a monthly fee and you decide on your own hours. This would only be done once you have a clientlle though, without one, it might be hard to make your payments. I have gotten busier in the last couple of years, and my cheque has definatley reflected that. i work for someone, i don't chair rent, so once I bring in a certain amount of service dollars every month,my commission goes up. It definatley pays off. you can be as busy and as rich as you want to be, it depends on how hard you want to work. I absolutley love the business, I can't picture myself doing anything different. It can be stressful at times, but most of the time its fun. i find that I am better friends with my clients now more than anything. hope this helps you out!

My hair dresser gave me a perm and now my hair is falling out. I called and he is offering a deep condition!?

What are my options, there is not really any hair now to deep condition. My hair dresser gave me a perm and now my hair is falling out. I called and he is offering a deep condition!?
braid your hair in kinki twist with extensions or micro braid it , order this vitamin called hairfinity it really works and rub castor oil in it just a little . this will keep yor hair in a protective style and help it to grow back dont take out the braids for like 60 days

i had a really bad perm i did this for 100 days and my hair grew 3.5 inches in 3 monthsMy hair dresser gave me a perm and now my hair is falling out. I called and he is offering a deep condition!?
OMG first you need to call the BBB(Better Business Bureau) and tell them about the hair dresser who obviously has no clue what he's doing. Take the conditioning and then when it doesn't work contact the owner of the salon
the deep condition wont work. honestly if i were you i would get a refund and go buy me a wig!

Is it safe to assume that if you walk into a hair salon and the hair dresser looks like they just stepped out?

of the 80's with big bleach blond peg bundy hair or with a horible mullet that they are lost in the times and will give you a horible haircut?

How do you know that the person is good at what they do????Is it safe to assume that if you walk into a hair salon and the hair dresser looks like they just stepped out?
I've been a stylist now for 3 years and i hear things like this alllll the time. Personally, i have very long hair that is all one color. i have several clients that comment on that. its not often you see a stylist with ';normal'; hair. but so many people tell me that they trust me because of my hair! its funny, atleast i find it funny. usually the girls with the crazy hair dont find it so humerous. its those girls that give hairstylist like me a bad name

I do find that im better at the more ';natural look'; rather than something crazy (cause its what i wear)Is it safe to assume that if you walk into a hair salon and the hair dresser looks like they just stepped out?
if their clients hair is pretty they are a good stylist for you. say you want a bob and you walk in the hair salon and you see an ugly old man wearing a shirt from the 1800s touching up on the most beautiful bob ever you must pick him no matter how horrible his clothes are.
yeah i usually dont trust those people and cringe when my hair is placed in thier hands

i would eiether go for a younger stylist or someone who looks practicle

but i know what you mean i hate that
    younger,

    know the trends

    older,

    more experienced

What is the best way i can keep my hair healthy, full and thick without going to a hair dresser?

i have short dyed hair {neck length}, split ends, breakage everywhere. i use to have long thick, full healthy hair to my back and it broke off when my mom allowed the hair lady to cut my hair when i was 12. it grew back when i was 13, then broke off again. now it just wont do anything. i grease it every 2x a week and wrap it everynight. hair dressers cost too much because of my financial problems. what can i do to get my hair to grow back?

i know that african american women have different hair then women who arent AA. so what can i do?What is the best way i can keep my hair healthy, full and thick without going to a hair dresser?
There are many products out there that can help your hair, which sounds like it's damaged. I would know, because I have colored hair too, and I went through a period where it was breaking off not only beacause of the color, but because I used too much heat (flat-iron, hair dryer).

The BEST thing to do is condition like crazy. You want to find a good conditioner at a beauty supply store and try to condition your hair a few times a week, but when you do, leave the conditioner in for about 20 minutes, and then wash it out. There is no magic product to help your hair, unfortunately, only certain methods.

Other advice would be to limit heat damage to your hair (I don't know if you use hot tools or anything). Get regular hair cuts as well. I know you want long hair, but long hair with split ends is not attractive - it's better to get your hair trimmed until the split ends are gone, because then it will feel fuller. I know this all first-hand. And your hair grows faster when you get regular trims too.

I would also suggest perhaps limiting coloring your hair, or finding some other way around it if you are afraid of future breakage. It's just a fact that color does damage the hair, and for people like us who can't afford the best treatment possible every single day like the stars of Hollywood, it can be difficult. Good luck! What is the best way i can keep my hair healthy, full and thick without going to a hair dresser?
One way to ensure strong hair is to get your vitamins everyday. Take a supplement that conatins Biotin- that's the building block of hair and nails. Also getting enough water makes a huge difference.

Our hair length is ';programmed'; into us. Some people can not grow long hair. Its pretty common to have long hair as a child, cut it and then never have it grow so long again.

As hair falls out it is replaced by new hair. It takes about 7 years for the entire head of hair to shed and be replaced. So essentially every 7 years you have fresh hair. If you have damaged the strands with chemicals, or sometimes even antibiotics and other medications can cause breakage, sticking to a healthy diet and getting enough biotin and calcium can get you that thick hair if you stick with it long enough.

Is anyone here a hair dresser for black ppl ineed to know some things?

do any of you know about the bumpers for hair instead of getting relaxer or perm. ive been hearing perm damages your hair %26amp; i havent had mine in for a long time %26amp; my hair looks different in a better way but i was thinking about going natural %26amp; i don't mean nappy%26amp; hard i just want to have my hair straightened without perming it. any ideas oh %26amp; i have color in my hair so ...

any ideas? Is anyone here a hair dresser for black ppl ineed to know some things?

I hope this helpsIs anyone here a hair dresser for black ppl ineed to know some things?
i do a lot of black peoples hair including my own. i usually use heat protection and olive oil spray then i put a hot comb to it. that has to happen about every 3 weeks and for some every 2 it just depends if your hair is EXTREMELY nappy. olive oil hair products help the dryness stop most of the time so try getting some of them %26amp;see if it helps keeps your hair straight. i dont recommend you wash your hair daily because it may cause you to put more heat in your hair and since your working with black people hair heat is VERY damaging and causes breaking. hope this helps.

its a short graduated bob with some layers and lots of volume :)

ask for a nice blowdry and straighten afterwards as well. they may need to thin your hair out if its too thick. make sure you say you want the layers choppy with lots of bounce xx
    It's called a Graduated Bob.

All hairdresser's will know what it is, but if you want it Exactly the same then take a picture of the hairstyle with you.

take a pic 2 the hair dressers
Basically a bob with layers. Just print a picture and show it to them

Barrettevey: Do any of your kids have the potential to be a great hair dresser?

I look awesome with a dinky little pony tail sticking out of the top of my head, a flower barrette on the right side of my head, and a hair clip on the left. My daughter is going to do hair for Hollywood!Barrettevey: Do any of your kids have the potential to be a great hair dresser?
Aww yes, my 2 ';mini-me's'; have done quite the number on my hair at times, once they got it go tangled with barrettes, hairspray and yes RUBBER BANDS, that we had to literally cut my hair out...

They would do well in B-Scary type movies!

Where in san diego,ca is a good hair dresser for curly hair?

My hair follows the puerto rican and armenian side of me. So it is really thick and curly. And i mean really thick i have not yet met a person with hair as thick as mine. I need a hair dresser that knows how to cut and style my hair, does anyone have any suggestions. Please help.Where in san diego,ca is a good hair dresser for curly hair?
I am sure that there are many in San Diego but, I know that my daughter who has a mix of Puerto Rican and Black hair loves the guy at BB's California Cuts on E. Main Street in El Cajon.

She is just 12 years old but she really does know a good style.

    Give it a try.

What is the correct way to tip a hair dresser? I believe it is like tipping a waiter/tress, 15% of the bill?

I go to SuperCuts and they charge $13.00. So I give my

hairstylist $5.00 tip, sometime $4.00. To me I think

that's very fair! I guess it depends on how good the

hairstylist is and how close you are to the them. What is the correct way to tip a hair dresser? I believe it is like tipping a waiter/tress, 15% of the bill?
I generally tip 15% :)What is the correct way to tip a hair dresser? I believe it is like tipping a waiter/tress, 15% of the bill?
dont believe in giving tip to your hairdresser i will give her a gift 4 christmas

I have black died hair, will the hair dresser be able to dye my hair a dark red?

Iv dyed my hair a natural black my self, however im wanting to go a deep red now, will th hair dresser be able to do this without bleaching or stripping my hair first? Also does hair dye not fade as much if it is done professionally?I have black died hair, will the hair dresser be able to dye my hair a dark red?
i did this and ended up having to do it twice. i didnt use bleach or anything, just straight hair dye. black i think, is the most permanent color of all. also, i find that dying your hair at a salon by a professional is similar to dying it at home. the difference is, they can mix colors for you, and it comes out to be more even. hope this helps and good luck!I have black died hair, will the hair dresser be able to dye my hair a dark red?
TO be able to get the deep red shade, you have to bleached you hair. Black can't be covered by Red. Even if let say, they will use the 12% peroxide, still you can't achieve the red side you wanted...
you cant dye light over dark

    stripping is at hand

  • If a hair dresser does a TRULY atrocious job of cutting your hair, is it acceptable to not leave them a tip?

I got my hair cut a couple of days ago and it looked absolutely awful...I paid my hair dresser for it %26amp; I also left her a $5 tip because I didn't really know what I was supposed to do. But now almost everyone who's seen my hair has said that I shouldn't have tipped her.

Should I have, or shouldn't I?If a hair dresser does a TRULY atrocious job of cutting your hair, is it acceptable to not leave them a tip?
I wouldnt have. If they do a horrible job and completely mess up your hair, why should they get it.

Theres been a few times where it looked like they took a weedwacker to my head, and I do not tip, its there job to be able to cut hair the right way If a hair dresser does a TRULY atrocious job of cutting your hair, is it acceptable to not leave them a tip?
It is done and over with ... it's not like you can take back that $5 tip now. If she truly did mess your hair up then you should have asked to speak to the manager, explain yourself, and if the stylist did in fact do an atrocious job on your hair then you will not have to pay for it. Sometimes it is not that the stylist did anything bad to your hair, but simply that it doesn't look as good on you as it did from the reference that you provided. Next time if you don't feel he/she did quality enough work for a tip, then by no means should they get one.
I work in a salon. there r stylists that don't listen to a thing a client says and go ahead and do whatever the hell they want. if that's the case then no u dont have to tip and u can end ask for a re cut by somebody else who will get the credit from the stylist that messed it up. But I have seen clients insist on haircuts that dont match their hair texture or frame and if the results r disappointing then she should have listened to the hair stylist, she already did her job and needs to get paid. I would like to look like Jessica Simpson to but I can't.
    Take comfort in the fact

    that you are not alone.

Everyone at some time in their

life, gets a really bad haircut.

I most definitely would not have

    left the stylist a tip.

In the future, if this should

happen to you again, do not

leave a tip and then make

    a complaint to the owner-

either by phone or while you

    are still there.
Well, gratuity should be based on your satisfaction. And although it is polite to tip, it is not required as long as there is justification. Ultimately, it depends on what you think of the overall job. Now if you were at a restaurant and received poor service, you still tip because the waiter or waitress's employer expects you to tip. This is why the food serving industry is notorious for their low wages.
Since a tip shows your satisfaction with the service performed, I don't think you should have left one. I also think you should have told the stylist and the manager that you were not satisfied. You probably wouldn't have had to pay for the cut.

That being said, I probably would have done the same thing you did.
Aw, I'm sorry about your hair.

Tips are based on how pleased you are though, but I'm not fond of leaving no tip, so I probably would have either left $5 tip like you did, or explained what I didn't like about it in a polite way, and then left a much larger tip if she fixed it to my satisfaction.
You leave a tip in appreciation of a job well done. That applies to a hairdresser as well as a waiter. The girl that ruined your hair will think you were satisfied with what she did. The only way you can get the point across is to forego the tip and let her know you're not at all satisfied.
yes, my mom is a hair cutter a really good one (she works in an upscale salon) even if you dont like it , it would be very sad making the women work.. they live off the tips for the week. even if you dont like the hair cut give her another chance dont switch hair dressers wen u go back to the shop. (it happened to my mom once becasue the lady didnt like her color, my mom was heartbroken) next time give a tip its the right hting to do
I do the same thing... For some reason I hate my haircut, but I don't know what to say more than...

';uh yeah it's great'; Then I go home and cry and find another stylist.

I think it's easier to stiff a bad waiter/waitress because you just leave them the money on the table. You don't have to look them in the eye and hand it to them.

Basically I have a really hard time telling the hairdresser that they are just awful and someone should pull their license.

    Ahh...it's people like us that keep these horrendous people employed and ignorant. I think it would be easier not to tip them if you (and I) first told them that they hadn't done a very good job at all. Instead of running somewhere else and going ';FIX IT PLEASE!!!!';

LOL I just had my hair fixed yesterday. Total cost of two haircuts and two tips. $80. Yuck.
I think you did the right thing... I mean, it's not as if she MEANT to cut your hair badly, you know? But $5 might be kind of alot for something you hate.. I would've left her like $2 or $3.

But if she was really rude to you AND cut your hair badly then I wouldn't have tipped her anything.
If a job is not up to standard then I don't pay at all. That applies to any work someone might do for me.

Its me that has to carry the inconvenience of getting it all done again. Sounds hard but you pay for what you ask for and no more.
well if u wanted to be nice then yes but if u really hate it then just go with what u think, and i suggest that u don't go there again if its looks that bad lol

and yea it might be weird that i answer like all ur questions but their really interesting, and they give me 2 points lol
No you should not have tipped her. A tip is a reward for doing a job correctly not necessarily spectacularly but certainly correctly. One doing a poor job has simply not earned their tip.
Tip=Gratuity. Gratuity=Gratitude. If you don't have gratitude for the service you were given, you don't leave a tip. :)
A gratuity is based on performance and gratitude. Clearly since she performed atrociously and you weren't grateful for it, a gratuity was not in order.
if you think you can't tell her how much you don't like it, i wouldn't leave a tip, anyway, they won't see me anymore since i'm not coming back!!!!
I mean it was polite, but if you're extremely unsatisfied with something then there's no need to tip. tipping is generally based on how much you liked what you got.
I believe you should do whatever you feel comfortable doing. And i think you should call her up and express your feelings. I defiantly would. Good Luck!
If your stylist F*~@%D up your hair, why did you even pay her in the first place let alone leave her a tip. In fact I'd have left her a tip, GO BACK TO TRAINING or FIND A NEW PROFESSION!
You tip people when you are satisfied. Its like an extra ';thank you';. If you didn't like it don't leave your hair dresser a tip.
if she did a truly bad job, you shouldn't have tipped her. her work was sloppy and no good, so theres nothing to be grateful for.
It's kind of like getting a very bad waitress at a restaurant. I don't like leaving nothing so I usually leave a dollar or less. That seems to get the message across. =o`)
Actually, I didn't know you were suppose to tip the hair cutter people until a few months ago.
if your not truly not happy with a hair cut and thought they butchered your hair you dont have to have to pay at all. why spend money for a bad hair cut you didnt want
Last time I gave my hair dresser the tip she fell in love.

NOOOOOO tips are for doing something good, not an award for f**king up
No when i go and get my hair done or something done if i like who they did i give them a tip, if not why should i
Maybe like a buck. For pity. You should have started crying and ran out. She wouldn't have chased you.
ummm...NO! I only tip when I truly enjoy the people who served me.
no you shouldn't have! you should have told her you hated it and had her fix it on the spot! i would have.
It is only 5 bucks...but a hairdresser depends on it...just dont ever use that dresser again....

Do I need a license to be a hair dresser in Montreal?

I'm considering going back to school to finish my studies of cosmetology, however, I wish to work in Montreal. I am wondering if I need to have an acquired license to work as a hair stylist in Montreal? HELP!Do I need a license to be a hair dresser in Montreal?
Well I know we have schools for cosmetology here in Montreal and I am going out on a limb here but I would say that experience will be needed. I see signs up and postings in the paper from time to time and all they mention from what I saw was experience. If you open your own place or work from home that could work. My hair dresser has her studio built on to her house.

The other factor that you need to consider is your French. Most if not all will require that you be bilingual. I guess it's good so you don't end up getting the request for layers confused with a bob cut if they ask you in French. lol

Good luckDo I need a license to be a hair dresser in Montreal?
I don't know where your writing from, but if you contact the Canadian embassy or mission in your city they would be happy to tell you, make sure you have the required number of hours to be eligible, also sit for the exam in your city as it will be much easier to apply for a license,if you all ready have one from another state or country...good luck

What are the pros & co's of doing your hair yourself vs. going to a certified hair dresser?

Everytime I got to the beauty shop I spend 120 dollars thats just for color. I like the way she does my hair and I know that you have to be careful who you go to. I have naturally red hair, it's blonde now. I'm just scared if I do it myself that it will break off %26amp; become extremely damaged. What are the pros %26amp; co's of doing your hair yourself vs. going to a certified hair dresser?
I'm sure a lot of Professional Hairstylists do it. I know they go to the Senior Citizens Lodges, Nursing Homes and Hospitals too. Next week ';Bad Hair Day'; is at my place and a couple of my neighbors will be there too. It's your turn to bring a gallon of vodka Celine. Mom's bringing the treats and I'm making Chili. All the kids are going to Grandpas so we'll have the day to ourselves. So ...Ya...get a home group going there PregO Nurse...it's fun!!!! And you'll save a pot full of money for that new baby too. What are the pros %26amp; co's of doing your hair yourself vs. going to a certified hair dresser?
I agree with you 111 %. You know what happened to me? The girl I usually go to went to another place and when I caught up to her she was booked up. So she had a couple of minutes to chat and she told me since she was so busy that she could do my hair on her day off at my home. Since she wasn't doing it at the shop she could charge me less plus she would get a discount on any products I needed and wanted. She was only putting in 3 days a week at the shop and I guess she got paid better. Anyway, so she came over, did my hair and everything for $75.00. Don't forget this included the color, shampoo and conditioner that I ordered through her. So now she does it for 4 other friends of mine too. We all get together at someones house and make a day of it. We call it ';Bad Hair Day';. She sure saves us all a lot of money and gets to keep her regular job. She enjoys the flexability and being able to pass the savings on to us. Most of what a shop charges goes to the shop, the hairdresser doesn't see it. Kinda shows you the markup. On average now it costs $50.00 since you don't have to buy shampoo and conditioner all the time. I tried to do it myself before but I can't get it to turn out as good.
YOU DO NEED TO BE VERY CAREFUL IF YOU ARE GOING TO DO IT YOURSELF...HERE'S SOMETHINGS TO KEEP IN MIND...FIRST OF ALL, IF YOU HAVE NATURALY RED HAIR AND ARE BLONDE NOW...IF YOU GO BUY A BOX COLOR FROM TARGET OR WHERE EVER, CHANCES ARE YOUR HAIR IS GOING TO COME OUT ORANGEY/YELLOW....THE REASON WHY IS BECAUSE THOSE BOX COLORS DON'T HAVE A HIGH ENOUGH VOLUME WITH IT TO GET A REDHEAD TO A PRETTY BLONDE...IT COMES WITH THE SAFEST LEVEL OF VOLUME BECAUSE THE PEOPLE USING THOSE AREN'T TRAINED IN COLOR...SECONDLY, CHANGES ARE YOUR STYLIST USES A LIGHTNER WHICH IS THE PROFESSIONAL TERM FOR HAIR BLEACH...IF YOU GO TO SALLYS BEAUTY SUPPLY, YOU AREN'T GOING TO GET THE SAME LEVEL OF QUALITY FROM THOSE TYPE OF PRODUCTS..CHANCES OF YOU RUINING YOUR HAIR DOING IT YOURSELF IS A BIG CHANCE TO TAKE...IF YOU DO SCREW UP YOUR HAIR, IT'S GOING TO COST MORE FOR CORRECTIVE COLOR THAN JUST IF YOU GO TO HER AND LET HER DO IT.

To ensure you like your new cut, take in pictures of hair you like. Usually, hair dressers have up-to-date magazines and style books you can look through. Trying to ';explain'; a hair cut can be difficult and could lead to you not getting what you want.

I just brought a picture to my hairdresser and she matched it. They use these special scissors for thinning (seen here: http://www.petplanet.co.uk/shop_dev/asse鈥?/a>Is there a certain way to tell the hair dresser to thin out my hair?
Yepp just say you want it thinned out all over.

If your going to have an emo hair style i'd reccommend you to get some choppy layers aswell.
Hair dressers have thinning shears. SO yes say thin it out and they will know what you mean.
Just ask them to thin it, they will either use a thinning comb of a razor
YEAH JUST SAY WIL YOU PLEASEMAKE MY HAIR LIGHTER OR THIN IT OUT
try getting it layered that will thin it out

Would a hair dresser be able to shape my eyebrows and make them more feminine looking?

My hair dresser is a lovely girl but I do not want to make her feel uncomfortable, she has cut my hair for two years now and is very good. I know she is doing other beauty treatments in the salon, but is it likely she would freak out if I ask her to make my eyebrows more gender neutral, and maybe more feminine in style without giving too much away?Would a hair dresser be able to shape my eyebrows and make them more feminine looking?
Just book in for an eyebrow shaping and before she does it she will ask you what you are looking to achieve, you could say you just want them to look neater and tidier. Once she does them you thank her and say that's great...then at your next appointment if you want them even more feminine just say you'd like them a bit more thinner. The reason I've suggested doing it in a couple of stages is so that it doesn't look such a drastic difference to your appearance immediately so people won't think straight away oh hes had his eyebrows done. Gradually is more subtle.Would a hair dresser be able to shape my eyebrows and make them more feminine looking?
just ask her to shape them for you lots of men have it done now so don't worry .... why don't you want people to know be PROUD of who you are good luck
    She won't mind

She will already know you are gay so there won't be any problem.

    Just ask her
definitely it would not be much of a big deal for your hairdresser to shape your eyebrows.
i don't see why she would feel uncomfortable. Casually say

'; I'm thinking of changing my eyebrows what do you think? Im thinking of making them thinner.'; If she sounds uncomfortable then talk to a cosmetologist
If she's a professional, she won't mind at all.

If she's narrow-minded and combines church and state, so to speak, it's time to find a new hair dresser.
why would she be offended by that- if she does eyebrows than I see no problem with her doing it-
why not explain it to her properly and you may make a friend for life...well a hairdresser at least. If she freaks change your hairdresser....plenty of talented people out there.
not at all just show her a pic of how u want them and shell do it simple look on the internet for femine eyebrows
Most hair dressers can easily wax the eyebrows. If you want to find out her reaction ask her something like '; what do you think about guys getting their eyebrows done?'; Or something like that. If your not comfortable with that then you can always go somewhere else to get them done. But then she will notice them different and could be insulted.

Either way they get paid to do hair and wether she agrees with what you want done she will do it.
Go to another beauty salon, maybe one in a larger city, for your eyebrow shaping.

    Save you feeling uncomfortable
they should i get mine waxed a lot cause really bushy manly untaimed eyebrows and they keep shape for about 2 months after waxing
    go for it
lovely girls never judge people she'd be happy to help more and more men are having their eyebrows shaped now...
One of the things most hair dressers do is shape eyebrows. If she doesn't know how, find one who does.
it depends on how your eyebrows are shaped.... and i dont think she would care... thats her job to make sure you're satisfied with whatever you're getting... not to be mean but this is kind of a dumb question...
I am sure loads of men get their eyebrows done, I know lots of men have massages in beauty salons... so whats the difference really? Just ask... theres no reason why she wouldnt.. shed be taking ur money after all!
Wouldn't hurt to ask her, ';hey, I was thinking about getting my eyebrows shaped, they're a little aggressive for me as they are. What do you think?'; and if she doesn't do that she could probably connect you with someone who can. Maybe say you're looking for a more ';elegant'; or ';gentle'; or ';subtle'; look for them, if you're uncomfortable saying you want them more feminine.

Do be aware that's probably going to be a waxing or plucking operation, though.

What is a good tip for your hair dresser?

I got my hair cut and colored yesterday and she did an amazing job! How much would be a good tip? How much would an average tip be? The total cost was $105 which included a shadow and an all over weave and a cut. I think $105 was a very good price. What is a good tip for your hair dresser?
Usually between 15-20% is what most people tip.

How did this muslim who is suing the hair dresser for rejecting her as an applicant because she wears a head?

scarf, know that was the reason for her rejection? Usually they don't reply if you are unsuccessful, or simply write saying you haven't been successful on this occasion, but rarel if ever give the exact reason. And I think if for some reason you would give the reason, you would hardly choose to start with this case, which is obviously going to cause controversy. How did this muslim who is suing the hair dresser for rejecting her as an applicant because she wears a head?
omg ANOTHER muslim kicking up a stink she didnt get it move on could you imagine if every applicant complained

and anothet thing when i walk into a salon i expect to see all the hairdressers displaying nice hairstyles!

sorry if i sound offensive but this keeps happening in the UK they cant just give the jobs to you because of your race! there are OTHER applicants who might just be better qualified than you! why should they get everything because they have different coloured skin! thats racist against the other applicants! what is the world coming too!!!How did this muslim who is suing the hair dresser for rejecting her as an applicant because she wears a head?
Race card once AGAIN.......welcome to Britain
I read that she had been refused other positions on the same basis.

Another militant muslim intent on stirring up trouble.
This woman had been turned down for dozens of jobs previously and has similar claims in against most of them. She's a scam artist who is playing the system and as always will get her pay offs to avoid offending the muslims.
Because the interviewee commented on it during the interview and then told her that that was why she was unsuccessful.
She was told by the interviewer (the owner) that she expected all her stylists to be able to show off their hair, or words to that effect. She had also applied to other salons before and after this one - so I'm not sure why she decided to sue this particular lady instead of the other people who rejected her. Maybe this was the only place she got a reason for her rejection, or maybe the others were larger chains and likely to have more resources to fight the case.

Whatever, it is very sad to think that women have fought for so long to get equal rights, and men and women have fought to get fair treatment for people of all races and religions, to have it trivialised like this.

Since her faith is obviously so important to her, I would have thought that it would be better for the complainant to apply to work in a Muslim-owned salon where she would not be expected to display her hair.
OK thingy, race card .I expect by now you have got it.They all play the race card, something we don,t have.Race card ok
We don't ave 'em by yer, so it's not a problem. Does muslim women bother 'avin' their hair done? I mean, no one ever gets to see it do they? Seems like a waste of money to me like!
Muslim women choose to wear headscarfs not all muslim women wear them. so why then is she choosing to wear a head scarf and choosing to be a hairdresser!!. I have not had my hair done by certain hairdressers because of their hair. When you have your hair done you do look at the persons hair thats a fact. The lady is not being racist at all just being sensible and honest, she is running a business afterall.
    Links please.
The muslim lady might have heard rumor, or (and i hope this ain't true) but she is playing the 'race card', becasue she didnt get the job.
The interviewer repeatedly made it clear that she was uncomfortable with her wearing the headscarf. The Muslim lady stated that the headscarf was central to her religion. It wasn't just a fashion item. And it didn't affect her doing the job. When she was unsuccessful, it was quite obvious that the headscarf was the reason why. As the advert didn't say NO HEADSCARF I think she's justified in suing as she obviously feels strongly about it and it's a job she always wanted.

If it was me I'd just move on. I've been unsuccessful many times because, I believe, the interviewers already have somebody lined up for the job (usually a mate) and are just going through the motions because it's the law.

And why do the RACISTS here always say 'race card' when a non-white complains? Do you believe that only white English people are allowed to complain?
you think that's strange, a Asian man visiting his son in prison, accused the drugs sniffer dog of been racist, as every time he visited the prison and the dog sniffed him it sat down indicating it smelt drugs,he also threatened to sue, claiming the prison service had a racist dog,
Imagine someone scruffy, someone who doen't wash their hair for a week, oily, minging, witth the roots for 3 diferent colours showing, aplies for the same job.

The owner of the salon tells her '; Sorry sweetheart but your image does not comply with the image we want to pass on to our clients. If you wash your hair and have a nice dye and style, maybe we will consider you for the position';.

Would the scruffy minger sue the salon? Or would she:

    a) Run home take a shower and have a hairdo

    b) change career path

Are we really as tax payers be paying for the court costs of this ridiculous claim?

Edit@thingy: Part of being an hairdresser, or a fashion designer is that you can show your own style and flair so it kind of becomes like a trademark. It doens't make any sense what you're saying.
angry i guess and self fear of one another due to different looks.

    maybe?

Is it okay to see a hair dresser when you have a flaky scalp?

Or is it like going to the dentist without brushing your teeth first or not showering before a physical? I know you can do these things so I guess it is more a question of etiquette. Is it okay to see a hair dresser when you have a flaky scalp?
i have dandruff badly. tried everything in the market. i go to the hairdresser quite regularly, and inform them beforehand i have dandruff. i go to great clips. DO NOT i repeat DO NOT go to walmart, whatever their hair place is called. i had gone there one time in a hurry, informed them of my dandruff prior to treatment. they began to wash my hair and in mid suds quit, put on gloves and called one of the other stylists over and ';proudly'; exclaimed ';oh miss you have head lice!'; now i know for a fact i do not have head lice. if it werent for the fact i was mid suds i would have gotten up and left. i was mortified but i let them finish the hair wash and cut but when i paid them i promptly told them they would no longer be receiving my business or any of my friends business. Is it okay to see a hair dresser when you have a flaky scalp?
Of course it's okay. In fact, inform your hair dresser of your problem right away and ask for their recommendations as to products and treatments.

I'm sure you're embarrassed, but you aren't the only client they've had with flakes. It's not like you're contagious or anything like that. It's very common and they aren't going to care.

If you have a severe problem, speak to your doctor or dermatologist. There are prescription shampoos that may help to alleviate your flakes.

I don't know if you've tried this or not, but consider trying a Pine Tar Shampoo. Sometimes they can be very effective in helping with flakiness.
It's nice if you at least wash your scalp in the 24 hours before going. It's not required, but think of the person who has to handle your scalp. Yes, it's her job, but you want to be considerate.

As long as the flakes aren't something contagious, it's fine to go. If you have open sores (areas where something can get into your bloodstream), you may want to reconsider, simply because beauty shops aren't sterile places even though they try to keep them clean. You don't want to pick up someone else's disease.
    I do.

What is the normal amount to tip a hair dresser?

It's for a 3 hour hair cut and color appt. I never know how much to tip them? What is the normal amount to tip a hair dresser?
Go by price, like in a restaurant. 20% is good. I get tips between $1-$30, but I always remember and work in the clients that tip accordingly. Plus it is good karma to tip well. What is the normal amount to tip a hair dresser?
it really depends, I would say around 20%, if you color and cut was $150.00 I would tip about 25-30+ depending on what color service you received. if someone is standing over you foiling your hair for two hours you need to tip more then just a basic all-over color.

Most stylist only receive about 30% of the service cost, so for $100 foils, they get around $30, which isn't anything.
Just leave them as much as you think they should get that is how well they done on your hair is the only way that you know how much to leave them!
I would tip about 20-30 dollars

When you go get your hair cut or colored or permed, what is a good tip? How do you determine it?How do you detemine what is a good tip for a hair dresser?
I determine by the service. I've had some very bad trips to the salon, and if the service is bad I don't tip well or at all. If they don't style my hair as I asked, and then tell me afterwards that they did what they THOUGHT would be best for my hair, I don't tip very well. I recently had my hair dyed from black to a deep blonde, and the woman worked sooo hard to get the color that I wanted and not damage my hair. It turned out sooo well. It was about $60 and I tipped her $10. :]

What is the best way to go about picking a hair dresser?

My hair is very important to me. It's really long but I like a few layers in it to give it more body. Many times I have chosen hair stylists and I can tell them to trim it and sometimes I get one who doesn't seem to know what trim means. What is the best way to go about picking a hair dresser?
There are several ways to find a good hair stylist.

    1) Ask your friends and family for a recommendation.

    2) Check out different salons in your area. You can even stake them out and watch people leaving to see if you like the styles.

    3) Trial and error.

    4) When you see someone with a great style, as them about it.

I was a regular at a salon, but kept asking for different people until I found a great woman. She's been my exclusive stylist for over eight years. When she left the salon to start her own, I followed her, as did most of her customers. A good stylist is one for life. What is the best way to go about picking a hair dresser?
where ever you go ask them how long they Ben doing this and lets see some of your work.
Good word of mouth is a way to find any reliable service.
Ask people whose hair you like who does theirs. Set an appointment for an interview before you ever make an appointment for a service. Ask them what they think ';trim'; means. Talk to him or her about what's important to you--easy care, latest styles, etc. Ask how often they attend workshops and such to make sure they are aware of current styles and how to create them. Make sure you click with the stylist before you ever let him or her touch your hair. It's worth the time involved.
Absolutely word of mouth. Do approach someone with hair you like, especially if the kind of hair (fine, frizzy, etc...) resembles yours. Better yet, observe a friend or a neighbor or a colluegue over time. If you always like their hair, then ask about their stylist. Ask things that matter to you, like does he/she suggest things, does he/she follow your wishes, etc...
Stand outside the shop and see the hairstyles of the people that are coming out. Do you like them or not ? That's your best choice !.
Notice someone with a great haircut

and ask them who does their hair.

What is the average salary for a hair dresser?

I have to do this project for school and she wants us to find out what the job we want to and how much the salary is. I said that I want to be a hairdresser, but not one that works at like great clips or fantastic sams, but like a good one that works at some fancy rich place haa. What is the average salary for a hair dresser?
    $7 an hour

it really depends on how experienced you are, where you work, your skills, and who you know though

so i can't tell you how much the ';fancy rich place'; hair dressers make cause there's more variation

How can I find a new hair dresser that is inexpensive but good?

I love my old hair dresser whom I've been going to for years, but the last two times I went to her she messed my hair up. I can't afford a expensive cut. I just want someone to do a good job.How can I find a new hair dresser that is inexpensive but good?
You've got to ask around, ask your friends or friends mom's, who they go to. If you see a complete stranger with a great hair cut, by all means, ask them who they go to. Word of mouth is the best way.

There are plenty of ';cheap'; haircutting places out there, but I'd be scared to go to them myself. I've even heard you can get a good deal by going to a hairdressing vocational school. They need heads to practice on, if your brave :)How can I find a new hair dresser that is inexpensive but good?
Ask around, where do your friends have their hair cut? You could try your local college or a model night at a salon........they are both overseen carefully.
Ask around, your friends, co-workers, word of mouth is a good hair stylists best friend!
First, try to communicate better with your current stylist. If that is not working out right, the best way to find a good stylist is by way of referral. Find someone whose hair you like and just ask about their stylist.
Where are you? That might help. I have a fabulous hair dresser, but she is in California.

Will a hair dresser die your if your pregnant ive heard of pregos being turned down anyone have this happend?

I've never been turned down and I know lots of women (including myself) who have gotten their hair dyed while pregnant. Both times I've gone they could obviously see I was pregnant and no one said anything about it except to congratulate me.

Some have speculated that chemicals in the hair dye could penetrate the scalp and enter the bloodstream but there is no evidence yet to support this, and even further - to prove that even if it did it would adversely affect the fetus.

So it's up to you, but generally it's not considered a risky thing to do. Just make sure that the salon is well-ventilated - the fumes can be heavy sometimes. Will a hair dresser die your if your pregnant ive heard of pregos being turned down anyone have this happend?
    no.

    how old are you?

why would you belive that? Will a hair dresser die your if your pregnant ive heard of pregos being turned down anyone have this happend?
Yes I've heard that expecting mothers should not get their hair colored, I gess because of all the chemicals the die has is not good for the fetus. But do some research they should have some organic dye that you can use.
They shouldn't but its not such a good idea to get your hair done professionally because they use stronger chemicals then the dye you can use at home. Also they keep the dye in your hair longer as the ones you use at home so its better to use the ones you do yourself also when you do it yourself you can sit outside so you don't breathe it in as much. If you do decided to get it done at a place just ask them if they could leave a window open, a friend of mine did that and they had no probable doing that for her.
I'm sure the reason they'd turn someone down is if they have really strong chemicals and their store isnt well venelated because it could effect you. But they really shouldnt refuse to dye your hair.
Ok first I thought ';why would a hari dresser die bcos u r pregnant '; and i was like ok...its dye and not die.But my doctor adviced not to dye hair during pregnancy
Hey Roxi---I have a cousin who is a hair stylist and when I was 4 months pregnant she dyed my hair and I was told that it won't hurt your baby. Also it depends on the haircolor and product they use also. Some are really strong smelling and some have no but maybe a light smell to it. I have no problems and my OB says its fine. GL
Some wont dye your hair because of the hormones your body produces....If you got a blond die it could turn like red or orange....I wanted to dye mine black but they wouldnt because of the risk of it turnin a different color...
yes, she may turn you down....

Those chemicals are unhealthy to an unborn child. They get into your blood stream and even the smell of the toxins are harmful. i suggest waiting until after the baby is born to get your hair died. Trust me this is not the first time you are going to have to put off something you are going to want to do for a baby.
Yes It's possible! ummm well I don't think this is a good idea because there are many chemicals in the die that can hurt the fetus! =(

Why was nothing ever mentioned in the bible about Jesus Christ being a hair dresser?

And how long has he been living in Tampa?

.Why was nothing ever mentioned in the bible about Jesus Christ being a hair dresser?
Kind of apt that he lives on Temple Terrace Hwy.Why was nothing ever mentioned in the bible about Jesus Christ being a hair dresser?
There's lots of stuff not written down about Jesus, according to the Apostle John:

John 21:25 And there are also many other things which Jesus did, the which, if they should be written every one, I suppose that even the world itself could not contain the books that should be written. Amen.
So his second coming is not to destroy evil, but to make women look fabulous? Works for me.
And he's working for Teresa. Hmmm......
ROFL, maybe he's there to fix bad haircuts or regrow hair on bald people.

i think it takes a while to get somewhere. but once you do you can make good if you are good and push to work somewhere nice. but if you just work at your local super cuts. you wont make much...sorry to anyone that does. you can tell me otherwise if you do.

you might have to live in a bigger city.

depends on if you have an eye for what looks good on others. It does take a long time to get clientele, probably about 2 yrs if your good. I would recomend going to a nice school like Paul Mitchell or even Toni %26amp; Guy. I would not work for T%26amp;G though. They don't pay much. I would start out a nice salon as help %26amp; learning under someone already established. Then find a nice lease space. Really nice places are about $125 to 175 weekly but well worth the money cause haircuts usually run $65 to $125.00 %26amp; color from $125 to $300 which is all yours .Is it easy too earn a living being a hair dresser?
yeahh. if you have alot of business and you are really good at it.
I am a barber. I'm on a 2 hour break, I came in at 10am today (they open at 8am) and I've made about $40 in 4 hours in tips and my share (50%) of the money. When I get back at 4pm, I'll work until 8pm (when they close) and in those 4 hours, I should make $60-70. Tomorrow I'll make $120-150. Sunday about $100. I'm off Monday and Tuesday. Wednesday and Thursday, I'm lucky if I make $100. Typical weekly earnings run around $500-550. I'm hardly getting rich. I'm not a kid, I have a following. I still work split shifts most weekdays. My health insurance is $250 a month for me. My employer pays half of the $250 and I pay half. This is a NY State program, pretty cheap and not very common in this biz. I don't know many barbers or hair dressers with benefits.

    It's a living. Not a great one!
No, hairdressers don't make a lot of money. There are extra things you can do- weddings, etc after hours. I think, if you are good, you can work up to a nice place and get tipped well. I pay $50 to get my hair cut, so he has to have a good living. And he cuts it in 30 minutes. He is 60 years old, though, it took a long time. You'd make a modest living.

Is it worth being a hair-dresser or cosmetician in London, or the whole England?

I would like to what You think about this. Can live someone with these professions well enough to maintain herself? Is it worth being a hair-dresser or cosmetician in London, or the whole England?
    Sure, why not.

Are you going to become filthy rich? No. However, there are many who work as hair dresser or cosmetician. So, I would say that you can make a living at it.

The most important things to consider are:

Do you have the talent to be a good one?

Would you find that kind of position personally rewarding?

If either answer is no, then don't do it.

Is it fun being a hair dresser/cosmotologist/ kind of job?

Any girls out there cosmotologists? I think it would be fun to go to the Paul Mitchell school in Costa Mesa, CA (close to where I live). It seems like a fun offbeat kind of 2nd job. Anyone have experience w/ those funky beauty schools?

What kind of personality do you have to have to do it? (not just a haircutter, but an all around hair cutter, makeup artist, stylist etc.)Is it fun being a hair dresser/cosmotologist/ kind of job?
I'm not a cosmetologist but one of my friends is and from what she's said- it isn't an easy job, it demands a lot of patience, practice, and you have to have a good work ethic. You have to be even-tempered or at least be able to keep your cool at all times. And you need to be at least moderately outgoing. But overall, she enjoys it because it's fun to talk with her clients and get to know them and make them feel and look beautiful.

Good luck!Is it fun being a hair dresser/cosmotologist/ kind of job?
I am an Esthetologist, which is skincare I don't do hair but I do facials and waxing and am a make up artist they teach you more about that in my field. I do work in salons with cosmos. You have to be outgoing and ready to promote yourself in order to build clientele. Also I believe a good personal appearance is very important. Good Luck!! I love this field it is definitely a lot of fun!!
You have to be outgoing. You cannot mind gossip because that's what goes on. While you're getting your hair done, or while you're doing hair, you talk and talk and talk...not for the shy and introverted. It will most likely be as fun as you make it since most people look forward to getting their hair done. Creativity is a must! Also, if you can't stand for long periods of time, this isn't the job for you.
I enjoy my job immensely. I have a very outgoing, friendly personality. Don't let people scare you. You have to take charge and let them know you know your job. I do hair all round aspects, color, cut, waxing, manicuring, pedicures, makeup, styles, and anything else some people dream up. Its completely awesome. But a few people, nothing in life makes them happy, don't take anything personal. I'm thinking about going to New York, for the Redken Colorist class, I think that would be fun.
Hi! I'm attending the Paul Mitchell Academy in Dallas, TX.

It all comes down to are you willing to do hair (yes, perms and little old ladies, too) for a long time?

    It's expensive. 1 yr is $15,000.

    Honestly?

You learn a lot but you can do just as well at a less expensive local school. Once you get out of school, the salon that hires you makes you either apprentice or learn how to cut hair all over again....and do it THEIR way...no matter where you had gone to school.

If you're going to do it then make sure you are dedicated enough to go to school and cut hair from 9 to 5, five days a week, with no pay!

    Good Luck!

ps: One good thing about going to a more expensive school is that you're pretty much guaranteed a job at a posh salon. I have friends that are already doing hair for runways, photoshoots, and celebrities...if the money is an important aspect of why you would like to go, then go big.

Can someone tell me the bad things about being a hair dresser?

I have been wanting to be a hairdresser for a long time. I do believe I would love it. The only thing that is keeping me from not doing it is that I do not take criticism well and I am so afraid someone is not going to like what I do to their hair and if I mess it up. Is there anyone that is a hairdresser that can ease my mind? Can someone tell me the bad things about being a hair dresser?
Go for it! I felt the same way when I got into the business. Once you receive the education, you find a confidence that will make you forget all those things. It is a very creative and full filling career. The one thing is,you must love people. I do, and it has worked for me for a long time. It is hard work, but a lot of money can be made. And there are a lot of diversities to the job also. Check it out! If you have the interest go for it. Good Luck to you!Can someone tell me the bad things about being a hair dresser?
I am not a hairdresser, but I know from experience that many women are VERY particular about their hair and sometimes have a vision in their mind about how they want their hair to look. Some might even bring in a picture. The problem is...it may be very hard to get their hair to exactly how they want it. So you might need to grow some tougher skin. You are afraid someone won't like their har? you an be POSITIVE several someones won't like their hair throughout your career and may even be downright rude or nasty about it.
One of my friends decided to become a hair dresser, and within a couple of years she had varicose veins. Once, after she did someone's hair, the girl left and came back, except while she was gone she had cut chunks out of her hair. They told her manager that my friend had done it, but since no one except the customer and my friend had seen her leave, the manager gave her a free hair cut.
my aunts been a hair dresser for about 30 years and now she has veracose veins all over her legs from standing for so long.

What's it really like being a hair dresser?

I'm considering becoming one. Either that or an Esthetician. I would like people that have been doing this type of work to comment on their experiences please. It would help a lot. What's it really like being a hair dresser?
its fun...if you're a people person you will love it.What's it really like being a hair dresser?
My best friend is a hairdresser and she loves it! Every day you get a new experience and new stories you hear, the only problem is once she made a little girl cry when she gave her a fringe- it wasn't a bad haircut, childeren are just prone to tears after a trip to the hairdressers- they usually like the way they looked before.
i was talking to my hairdressers the other week and she was acutally really unhappy with her job. she said that you work your butt off everyday and you get so little pay.
Every Hairdresser I know has sore feet and knees.

They also complain about being underpaid.

You are handling all walks of life, not all clients are hygienic with their hair. Can you handle washing dirty or germ infested Hair?

I believe it is profitable and rewarding if you owned your own business.

Either one you choose is still dealing with peoples bodies, hair or skin. Can you handle waxing someones bikini line ?

You may like to research make-up Artistry. This field of work can lead to Bridal, Theatre, Television, Catwalk, etc..
If it's something you really wanna do, then do it! I've been in the business for many years and I love it! Every day I do something different so I never get bored with my job.
You have to be able to tolerate arrogant rich people, gabbers, and standing on your feet for many hours.

Then there鈥檚 the stench of hairspray, chemicals and perms.

Many health risks are involved with a job that requires you to work in such close proximity to other people.

I am sure that there are many in San Diego but, I know that my daughter who has a mix of Puerto Rican and Black hair loves the guy at BB's California Cuts on E. Main Street in El Cajon.

She is just 12 years old but she really does know a good style.

    Ahh...it's people like us that keep these horrendous people employed and ignorant. I think it would be easier not to tip them if you (and I) first told them that they hadn't done a very good job at all. Instead of running somewhere else and going ';FIX IT PLEASE!!!!';
