Truth about hair dressers and Nail Techs - pay?

Can someone tell me the truth about what the deal is hair dressers and nail techs and what they get paid and how the tipping works?Truth about hair dressers and Nail Techs - pay?
That all depends on where you work and what type of salon you work in. The first few years the pay is pretty crappy, until you build up a clientele. The range is seriously different so I really can't even tell you, you should do a search for your state or call around and talk to salons. In booth rental salons you pay them rent for their booth and keep everything they make, including all of the tips. You will have to keep track of all of your tips because you will have to report them on your taxes. Some salons are commission on top of a small hourly rate. In these salons sometimes you get all of your tips and sometimes you all pool your tips together and split them. In franchised salons like MasterCuts, SuperCuts, and Fantastic Sam's you are paid by the hour and it is usually minimum wage. Usually here you will keep all of your tips. Booth rental is where the money is, but you cannot afford to do that until your clientele is built up. Franchise salons are best to start off with. Pick one in a mall, they are always busy, you will learn a lot and have a guaranteed paycheck.
