I have been wanting to be a hairdresser for a long time. I do believe I would love it. The only thing that is keeping me from not doing it is that I do not take criticism well and I am so afraid someone is not going to like what I do to their hair and if I mess it up. Is there anyone that is a hairdresser that can ease my mind? Can someone tell me the bad things about being a hair dresser?
Go for it! I felt the same way when I got into the business. Once you receive the education, you find a confidence that will make you forget all those things. It is a very creative and full filling career. The one thing is,you must love people. I do, and it has worked for me for a long time. It is hard work, but a lot of money can be made. And there are a lot of diversities to the job also. Check it out! If you have the interest go for it. Good Luck to you!Can someone tell me the bad things about being a hair dresser?
I am not a hairdresser, but I know from experience that many women are VERY particular about their hair and sometimes have a vision in their mind about how they want their hair to look. Some might even bring in a picture. The problem is...it may be very hard to get their hair to exactly how they want it. So you might need to grow some tougher skin. You are afraid someone won't like their har? you an be POSITIVE several someones won't like their hair throughout your career and may even be downright rude or nasty about it.
One of my friends decided to become a hair dresser, and within a couple of years she had varicose veins. Once, after she did someone's hair, the girl left and came back, except while she was gone she had cut chunks out of her hair. They told her manager that my friend had done it, but since no one except the customer and my friend had seen her leave, the manager gave her a free hair cut.
my aunts been a hair dresser for about 30 years and now she has veracose veins all over her legs from standing for so long.

What's it really like being a hair dresser?
I'm considering becoming one. Either that or an Esthetician. I would like people that have been doing this type of work to comment on their experiences please. It would help a lot. What's it really like being a hair dresser?
its fun...if you're a people person you will love it.What's it really like being a hair dresser?
My best friend is a hairdresser and she loves it! Every day you get a new experience and new stories you hear, the only problem is once she made a little girl cry when she gave her a fringe- it wasn't a bad haircut, childeren are just prone to tears after a trip to the hairdressers- they usually like the way they looked before.
i was talking to my hairdressers the other week and she was acutally really unhappy with her job. she said that you work your butt off everyday and you get so little pay.
Every Hairdresser I know has sore feet and knees.
They also complain about being underpaid.
You are handling all walks of life, not all clients are hygienic with their hair. Can you handle washing dirty or germ infested Hair?
I believe it is profitable and rewarding if you owned your own business.
Either one you choose is still dealing with peoples bodies, hair or skin. Can you handle waxing someones bikini line ?
You may like to research make-up Artistry. This field of work can lead to Bridal, Theatre, Television, Catwalk, etc..
If it's something you really wanna do, then do it! I've been in the business for many years and I love it! Every day I do something different so I never get bored with my job.
You have to be able to tolerate arrogant rich people, gabbers, and standing on your feet for many hours.
Then there鈥檚 the stench of hairspray, chemicals and perms.
Many health risks are involved with a job that requires you to work in such close proximity to other people.

How much does a hair dresser get paid on average?
It depends on how many clients you have, but it's not much. How much does a hair dresser get paid on average?
A hair dresser that works hard to maintain a good clientele can make a decent living. The key is finding the right salon, in the right neighborhood, working hard, and managing your time well. You have to work when others aren't (because they're in your salon), so some folks have a hard time with the hours, but if that's not a problem, you can do it.

Do hair dressers get paid alot?
Do hair dressers get paid alot of money because im really freaking out about my future and im training to be a hairdresser but will that be good enough to get me through life? =(Do hair dressers get paid alot?
heya...i'm a hairdresser in the UK
dpends if ur doing it as an apprentice or at college...
if u r doing soley @ college, try find a salon which will let u do 1 or 2 days a week work exp...b it paid or not...all salon experience will help your training...
alot of salons dont like stylists who have been trained only @ college and minimal salon exp, but most will b happy to help train you up.
also learning things like hair extensions can help...me personally...i did my training @ college, and had minimal salon exp...so from personal exp salons prefer salon exp. but i had the opportunity to learn hair extensions...and for tht i can charge up to £500...obviously it varies...but £200 is on the hair...and £300 profit.
also theres opportunties to do cruise lines...and if u you start going down the hair extension route...b worth doing as many methods as possible and mayb learning afro hair or barbering. (some colleges teach barbaring seperately).
hope it all goes ok! email me (devilrachel4eva@yahoo.com or devilrachel4eva@hotmail.com) if u got ne questions! :o)Do hair dressers get paid alot?
If you are starting out, may be low, but in time, clientele, you can work you're way up to popular hairdresser. My friends significant other is making well over 65k , he is booked up for 2-3 mos at times., owns his own salon., but it does take hard work, work sometimes long hours, be under apprenticeship. Keep in mind , mainstream salons , pay may not be much at all..'Cept for tips, benefits aren't to well either.
Good luck..stay vigilant...
As said previously, it all depends on what you want out of life! If you want to live really comfortably with a 4-bedroomed house, 3 kids and a dog? Then I would say that on a hairdressers wage, this may be slightly less comfortable than on a teacher's, for example. If it is what you really want to do, then go for it. You seem to be young enough to be able to re-evaluate what you are doing in several years time and if things are working out still, then great :] I am a great believer in sticking to a job that makes you smile!
Trainee hairdressers do not get paid much, this is where most people start out their careers; seeing to clients, offering them refreshments, cleaning up, doing the odd cut and blow-dry... like in most jobs, as you progress and develop experience, your pay increases.
You could even hit the big-time! Look at Andrew Collinge, Adee from ';The Salon'; on UK TV... Nicky Clarke! All of the big brands you see on your hairdryers! :] Put your heart into what you want to do, and anything is possible
you have to work your worth, because your pay will be based on how much you are in demand. good luck
It will take a while, but once you're through with school, get into a really good salon and learn from the pro's. If you really enjoy doing hair, you will build a clientele base and after that happens you will make money. It does take time and effort, but it is fun too. Many of your clients become friends and you'll look forward to their appointments and making them look great! It's like any job, if you apply yourself, you'll do well! Good Luck.
define a lot. How well do you want to get through life? its all relative babe.
i think that they make an ok amount, but not a lot. it gives you some options though. i think it is pretty steady work so you can do it almost anywhere. it can support you if you are working through school. or if you decide to stick with being a hair dresser you could open your own salon then you could make more.
enjoy what you are doing right now. and don't freak out about the future.
umm maybe not i duno how much they get but i dont think its a lot you might have to wait a while for a house

Exactly how do hair dressers get paid?
i was recently told they get a percentage of what their charges are plus your tip.
so if i was charged $150, what portion of that money would she receive plus my $40 tip.
this would be in pennsylvania, and she does not own the salon.
thanksExactly how do hair dressers get paid?
Im a new stylist in PA and I keep all tips %26amp; get 40% of what I bring into a salon. Time is money. The highest paid McCain staffer is Palin's Hair dresser! wtf? Does she sound like a normal hockey mom 2 you?
Please don't blame her, she's just a hockey mom suddenly thrust into the limelight, after all she was only used to cavorting with the moose and reindeers up in AK. She needs all the extreme makeover you can throw at her.The highest paid McCain staffer is Palin's Hair dresser! wtf? Does she sound like a normal hockey mom 2 you?

Would it be best to go to another hair dresser if you PAID them to do your hair your way, & they...?
Styled your hair the way THEY wanted to do it?
OK, even though I'm a female, I try to get my hair braided to the back, since it's cheap. My hair is pretty long, thick, %26amp; wavy. I feel stupid when they braid my hair dry with no hair products in it, after I ASKED them to put some gel in it. %26amp; then, they say they can't do it with gel because they said it would make their hands slippery %26amp; hard to grip. But they braid other people's hair (with similar texture to mine) with that wet, glossy, silky look with the gel.Would it be best to go to another hair dresser if you PAID them to do your hair your way, %26amp; they...?
If you're not happy, go somewhere else!Would it be best to go to another hair dresser if you PAID them to do your hair your way, %26amp; they...?
You just find a hair dresser who will do it your way. Why bother paying someone who does it their way....this is not what you asked for....
